Some thoughts about Leviathan Dawn #1

Leviathan won. Now who can go against them?

Kingsley Jacobs is not willing to let Leviathan continue with their operations and so is reuniting a new team to try to stop them once for all.

This series based on Brian Bendis' last event book is here and is pretty much more of the same.

Yes, this is a direct sequel of the Event Leviathan miniseries and this is not so much of a surprise since, like most of Bendis titles, the conclusion of that book was mostly a set-up for what was going to come next. In fact, Bendis uses a lot of the characters that appeared in Event Leviathan (and were quite worthless there to be honest) like Steve Trevor, The Question and Green Arrow. Speaking as a GA fan, I'm glad to see Ollie here but again, I don't think Bendis writes him particularly well, not even in an interesting way to be frank which is a similar opinion I have with most of the cast here. The only people who are depicted kinda compelling are Steve Trevor and Mark Shaw, the rest are just by the numbers.

That's one of my main problems here, I think that just like in Event Leviathan, there are too many characters here. We all know that Bendis is not the best at writing team books since he usually fails at giving each one of the members distinctive voices and is pretty much the same here. Plus, the story, while intriguing enough, is not that compelling since I don't really care how the cast is portrayed here.

Alex Maleev returns to draw this plot and his semi-realistic grim and gritty style continues to be a good fit for the tone of the book.

Aside from that, it's a mixed bag and I'm not sure about what to expect next.
