Some thoughts about Optimus Prime #18

The person behind the War of Primes has been revealed.

Someone has been manipulated all the events that has brought the Cybertronian race to this point and now is ready to conclude that history.

I wasn't even aware that this week was getting two issues of this series and while I'm glad that it continues immediately after the last cliffhanger, I'm not sure if the consequences are worth it.

John Barber revealed in the last issue that Shockwave was Onyx Prime all this time and this issue goes even beyond that. It is revealed here that after the events of Dark Cybertron, Shockwave traveled back in time and arrived just at the beginning where the Primes were starting their history which is not a bad premise per se. THE PROBLEM is the convoluted sequence that follows it.

It turns out that Shockwave has been Onyx Prime pretty much since the beginning of time and has been manipulated the rest of the Primes to fulfill the story he already knows to play at his hands. This doesn't really make much sense because that would mean that Shockwave was the one that caused all the events that were destined to happen anyway unless his plans also included himself to almost die at the end of Dark Cybertron and travel back to past and THIS IS WHY TIME TRAVEL STORIES ARE SO HARD TO PULL OFF! It just doesn't make sense, is just a forced way to pretend that the current arc is more complex than it actually is.

Sara Pitre-Durocher and Livio Ramondelli share art duties in the present and past segments respectively and they do a solid job, at least at following the style that Kei Zama creates.

Not digging this and I'm sure it will get worse if I think more about it.
