Some thoughts about Naomi: Season Two #1

Can Naomi deal with her new status as a hero?

Things have changed a lot recently, Naomi joined the Justice League but even then her parents still believe that she needs to control better her powers although nothing could prepare her for what's coming next.

Boy, it feels like we have been waiting forever for this. The long-awaited sequel to Brian Bendis' original character has finally arrived after many, MANY cameos over the years in multiple other books (all written by Bendis of course) which were pretty much pointless because we all knew that the actual developments would happen in Naomi's solo series.

And is a shame we had to wait for so long since I believe that Naomi was the strongest offering that Bendis brought to DC Comics (mind you, that's not saying a lot) and fortunately, such work continues appropriately here.

Accompanied by David Walker once again, Bendis follows the ramifications of Naomi's learning to use her abilities. There are references to Naomi's role in the Justice League of course but aside from that, you can basically ignore all her other appearances in other books. The focus goes once again to Naomi, her family and friends which it all works for the better in so many ways, especially because of how the "Bendis' talk" works here since is not as infuriating as in his other books with much bigger casts due to how repetitive and clausthrophobic it becomes. Bendis' narration is still prominent and has its classic ticks but instead it can actually develop characterization and create a more engaging interaction between the characters due that they don't have to handle a bunch of people with the same voices.

About the plot, is rather simplistic so far. We're introduced once again to Naomi's little world that just in the first book, it continually expands to cosmic levels, especially because of a new revelation surrounding people close to her. This chapter is pure set-up but it works to get you familiar with the series once again.

Jamal Campbell's artwork is still wonderful thanks to his vibrant style that depicts every character beautifully with a ton of expression.

Solid beginning. Let's see how things continue.
