Some thoughts about Batgirls #2

Can the Batgirls stop a rising threat around Gotham City?

Barbara, Stephanie and Cassandra are still getting used to their new life but now they will have to face the arrival of The Saints and a force that could put the people of the city against them.

Once again, a rather serviceable chapter but not much beyond that.

Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad offer a new installment where they progress their ongoing plot about the full team of Batgirls working together and I think the part where this series shine the most is when they handle the dynamic between the protagonists. The conversations between the cast is appropriately done with each one of them having a defined enough, recognizable enough personality which especially shines in the slice of life moments. Some of the "jokes" can be a bit cringey ("Do you like it here", "You mean the kitchen) but they don't totally ruin the moment.

The plot though, is still not there. There are some interesting elements, especially towards the end when someone starts controlling people to rebel against their heroes but aside from that particular antagonist, the villains are pretty weak, especially the ones that Babs' just reveals their full background which is a missed opportunity of making us actually care about them.

Oh, and I know that I said the personalities of the protagonists were fine enough but they're still not that compelling either, definitely not on the same level as they were during their respective runs as Batgirls, and the writing itself doesn't help at making them much more distinctive.

Jorge Corona's artwork is still pretty good though with beautiful semi-cartoony style that gives a lot of expression to the characters and detail to the settings.

Still not invested here which is a bit of a shame.
