Some thoughts about Batman: The Detective #5

Who is Equilibrium?

The organization who is going after the people who Batman saved is going to take even more victims and Bruce will soon realize their connection is closer than he expected.

First of all, let's pretend that I didn't miss and issue or so as usual.

Second, good Lord, Tom Taylor always has to disappoint someway.

I was really digging the story so far, particularly the dynamic between Bruce and his former teacher Ducard. Taylor's usual flaws like his lack of knowledge of continuity were gettting fixed here by the use of obscure characters like Knight and Squire and others connected to Batman's past. The cinematic pacing was executed perfectly, particularly in this chapter where the action flows extremely well and there is actually a twist in the plot.

... Unfortunately, that "twist" ends-up being one of the most stupid justifications ever. It turns out the reason why Equilibrium is killing people who Batman helped was because her family died in a car accident caused by one of those people. Seriously, what kind of motivation is that? Where is the reasoning behind? Something random happens and you suddenly decide to hunt people who barely have something to do with that? Taylor tries to justify it by saying that the villain hated the "chaotic nature of it" but that's... that's simply not enough, in fact, I think makes the whole deal worse (Then again, this doesn't come much as a surprise since Taylor has not been the best at writing villains).

Andy Kubert's artwork is amazing though. Great storytelling and tons of detail in every scene.

Don't think I liked this. Let's see how the conclusion fares.
