Can Harley Quinn redeem herself?
Batman still doesn't trust Harley and she's willing to prove her worth to Gotham City by facing one of their most known madmen.
Yeah, I'm pretty damn sure that Harley redeemed herself a looooong time ago.Anyone familiar with Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner's work on the character will tell you the same, in fact during those days she collaborated with Batman a few times even so this sudden mistrust on Harley seems really out of place.
This doesn't come much as a surprise though since Stephanie Phillips is responsible for this and, as you might remember, I wasn't really a fan of her Future State work because of how little it actually had to with Harley Quinn despite of starring her. This opening chapter actually follows the same trend due that is heavily connected to the Batworld instead of the one that Palmiotti and Conner created along with the lovable cast they introduced to Harley's life, they're all gone here just to follow a more predictable and derivative direction for the character.
The plot suffers because of that due that it's mostly about Harley trying to prove she's not a monster despite of the events that her ex unleashed during Joker War and is all so dull, by the numbers and unnecessary. Is basically just a forgettable filler or tie-in issue at this point (Not to mention that anything that ties-into James Tynion IV's ideas is usually bound to fail).
The only salvagable aspect here is Riley Rossmo's art, usually I don't like his work in non-supernatural books but the Harley Quinn series have such bizarre elelments that I think he fits nicely and his flexible look certainly follows the script appropriately.
Yeah, I'm skipping the rest of this, seems too editorially mandated for me.
