Some thoughts about Death Metal: Rise of the New God #1

How can the Multiverse survive now?

The Batman who Laughs has ascended to a new level of power and now is willing to take on Perpetua herself and there's only one being witness of all this.

This is pure fanboy waste of time and nobody should be surprised at this point.

James Tynion IV handles this nonsense (no surprise either) and is about the fight between The Batman who Laughs/Darkest Knight and Perpetua just to see who is the favorite Mary Sue. To be fair though, the "plot" is centered around a character called the Chronicler who is watching what's happening to the whole Multiverse and its continuity thus we don't have to endure the battle between the pet characters.

Mind you, aside from some nice references to history, the content in this segment is so lacking that the only way to compensate for it is to make the whole thing overwritten (which of course, is pretty easy for Tynion). Everything ends before you can actually wonder what was the point of it.

Jesus Merino handles the art here and is surprisingly solid, despite of the lack of uniqueness his work usually has, he's able to handle the cosmic scenes nicely.

Bryan Hill writes a segment about John Stewart and the rest of the Green Lanterns. This is appreciated since Hill does know how to write solid black characters despite that his plotting is usually pretty lacking. Fortunately, this part is mostly about character work and the writer handles the rest of the cast pretty well too.

Nik Virella's art is fine, nothing particularly beautiful but he follows the script clearly.

I would say that Hill's story was the best part of this but I don't think this is worth the investment still.
