Some thoughts about Justice League Odyssey #25

Is this the end of the Justice League?

Darkseid seems unstoppable but Jessica Cruz knows the way to finally defeat him, the problem is that not all of them will come alive from this.

This series comes to an end and just like Batman & the Outsiders, it does it with a whimper instead of a bang and equally as predictable.

Since Dan Abnett arrived to the series he made one of the most dull experiences books on the stands and this is a shame since I believe Joshua Williamson did a quite a promising job early on this book and created a solid groundwork for any other writer to follow him, Abnett wasn't that writer. Is not like Abnett is a bad writer, I will always keep his Rebirth Aquaman work in high regard, but he's just not the best at following the constant editorial changes that DC forces upon him, it happened in Titans and happened here too.

Still, Abnett is definitely at fault by not creating interesting enough characters and compelling plots. This issue demonstrates this by defeating Darkseid as quickly as possible and in a rather unsatisfying way (and makes the initial change of making him younger pretty pointless but that's not the writer's fault). There are a few solid ideas like some of the characters having to die in a way (taking the time traveling concept Abnett introduced here) to save everyone but is not enough to salvage this. Not to mention that this instantly leads to the current Death Metal event in a pretty clumsy way but hey, at least this explains why Kory and Vic are there.

Will Conrad remains in pencils and his work is still strong with expressive characters and a vibrant style.

Aside from that, waste of time and series.
