Can the Metal Men still save the world?
Chemo is back and Will Magnus' new team might not be enough to stop him but the worst part is that the Metal Men might not want to stop him.
Yet another underwhelming issue.
Dan Didio continues his story and it's getting much clearer what are the strengths and weaknesses of his work. In this issue we see more of the perspective of Magnus' new creations handling the job of his old ones including stopping a classic enemy like Chemo while the Metal Men contemplate about the possibility of how saving the world is not really a motivation for them and all of that could have turned into an interesting exploration of character... but it ended-up in basically nothing. The animal team is quickly defeated and the Metal Men almost immediately return to save the day.
And this is the problem with Didio's writing, he can actually create pretty interesting premises but his excution is almost always lacking for the most part. For example, his reinvention of The Phantom Stranger as a family man was pretty intriguing at first glance and the fact that Magnus was reintroduced as a manipulator of his own creation was equally compelling but all of that quickly devolved into nothing in a plot that should be more investing to read than it actually is.
Shane Davis handles the art and is decent enough with expressive characters and appropriate storytelling.
Aside from that, this feels mostly like a waste. Not expecting anything from now on.
