Some thoughts about Dark Knights of Steel #7

Can Bruce Wayne become the King his people need?

Bruce has been helped by a kind couple and now he will need the help of people his own Kingdom has forgotten if he wants to survive.

A few fun moments... coupled with a lot of the same issues that plague Tom Taylor's work.

Let's start with the positives. The issue is a very light read and yes, I don't take this as a negative since quite a few of the books I've read this week have been either very dense or very overwritten and Taylor's books are rarely any of those things for better or worse so I can take that as a plus for now. Second, the action scenes are well executed with cool scenes and fast-paced action which has always been Taylor's strength.

Aaaaand here come the negatives, there's a lot, A LOT of pandering. Especially the one focusing on how Bruce is a "privileged prince" that barely knows anything about his people, I understand the point and it could have created solid character work... if it wasn't because the other characters (Raven, Starfire, Cyborg and Beast Boy being reinvented as the forgotten class) keep insulting Bruce at every opportunity they have and yes, I suppose that Taylor also wanted to make the point that this is due that the Kingdom usually treated people that were different poorly but considering that the Els were superstrong people who shoot lasers I'm going to bet that this is just another case of Taylor's shallow social commentary that is written for a very specific demographic.

Oh, and there's very little plot progression and the true villain is becoming more and more obvious. Big surprise.

Nathan Gooden's artwork is very vibrant and detailed though, following the tone of the book appropriately.

Mixed bag, Things are dragging too much.
