Some thoughts about The Multiversity: Ultra Comics #1

The end of our world is nigh.

In an universe where superheroes don't exist, humanity is forced to create its own in the form of Ultra Comics a being who represents the best and worst from the comics genre. However, everything that Ultra was lead to believe was actually fake and the most terrible being that has been threateninig the multiverse is behind it.

Okay, the early issues have been pretty meta for the most part but with this one, Grant Morrison has completely obliterated the fourth wall.

The protagonist is Ultra Comics, the only representation of superheroes in the Earth Prime universe. Morrison goes so far to even depict all the eras from comics history since the Golden Age to the 90's to the current modern age in the forms of all the threats that Ultra has to face.

Of course the issue becomes quite self-referencial over its course, from the early pages where Ultra starts warning the reader to stop, to the different messages that are probably left from forums users, to the interpretation of how a true evil would use the medium to destroy and finally to even a bit of self-mockery about how pretentious Morrison can get. Really it's just a wonderful tale.

Doug Manhke is on art duties and his an incredible storyteller. He's able to interprete the script in a fantastic way while all the characters and settings look gorgeous.

Excellent chapter, probably going to talk more about it later to get everything but it's certainly great.
