Can Batman keep fighting?
Bruce is past his prime but once that a terrorist group who uses his name appears, he will have no choice but facing them before they cause any more deaths.
At this point I think is pretty obvious that Tom Taylor is really hit and miss for me. There are titles from him that I really loved while others, particularly his DC work, has left a lot to be desired. However, I'm always willing to give him a new chance and this new title does have an interesting beginning at the very least.
Taylor is not someone who I would associate with Batman due that most of his DC work has Superman involved in some way but this might be for the better due that this allows for more flexibility on his writing and the Dark Knight had so many different takes over the years that Taylor's usual off characterization might not seem so off here.
Fortunately though, Taylor nails the basics so far here. The story is suited basically around a Batman Beyond-like universe where an older Bruce contemplates if all the things he did made a real change in the world which is a fine enough set-up and portrayal for what's about to happen next. One of the biggest surprises is the return of Knight, specifically the Beryl Hutchinson incarnation (who was formerly known as Squire) and is surprising because Taylor is not exactly known for following continuity so this is pretty pleasent, not to mention that the writer does a good job with the characters involved and their dynamic with Bruce.
The antagonists also prove to be compelling due to their connection to the initial idea that Taylor developed and hopefully they will be further explored in the future.
Andy Kubert returns to the Batman universe and I'm glad he did since his kinetic artwork is perfect for the action scenes the title provides.
Decent although a bit short first issue. Let's see how things go on.
