Some thoughts about Ms. Marvel #1

The problems never stop for Ms. Marvel.

After surviving the end of the world, Kamala will learn that things around are constantly changing and that would be especially obvious after her best friend gets a girlfriend.

Well, this issue marks yet another new beginning for one of my favorite Marvel titles and it continues immediately after the last chapter from the last volume. How does it fares?

I would say that is fun beginning but one that is sadly full of cliches.

For one, the continuity is pretty good since G. Willow Wilson follows the story pretty much where she left it last time so old readers will feel right at home, is pretty much just like a new issue from the last book. Mind you, I think this is not a good jumping-on point for new readers since it continues a lot of the plot-points that started since almost two years ago so I would recommend newbies to start from the beginning.

The characterization is solid with Kamala acting as you would expect and the rest of the cast having pretty good interaction with one another.

Here comes the problem though: The classic "getting jealous of the new love interest of your old love interest".

Kamala gets immediately angry at Bruno after he finally got himself a girlfriend. You know, after Kamala constantly rejected him because she was busy being a superhero, you know, after she also rejected him because she had a crush on a pretty boy who turned to be evil, you know, after she rejected him at the END OF THE FRIKKING WORLD!

This can automatically make me hate a character due that it presents them as incredibly selfish and petty because they're unwilling to let someone be happy and prefer to have them around only to always admire them from far away. Plus, is also a typical trope of relationships and one that always make such characters unlikable, ALWAYS.

The art is handled by both Takeshi Miyasawa and Adrian Alphona and both of them due a great work in their respective sections. I was expecting to like Alphona's work the best but Miyasawa does a great job with his manga style that quite fits the tone of the story.

So, not the kind of nice beginning I was expecting. Hoping for the better in following installments.
