Some thoughts about Earth 2: Society #6

The impossible is about to happen in Earth 2.

Jimmy Olsen has decided to take the fate of the whole planet in his hands and now is accompanied by a group of people with a similar interest in mind while the heroes might not be enough to stop him.

This guy must be doing it on purpose, nobody can be this ridiculously STUPID.

There are so many things going wrong with this issue that is hard to know where to begin but let's start with the character that Daniel H. Wilson destroys first: Jimmy Olsen.

I didn't really care about Earth 2 Jimmy Olsen, I thought that his introduction by Tom Taylor in the title was completely out of place for the concept of the book but somehow Wilson actually makes me feel sorry for him. Jimmy is trying to bring back the previous Earth 2 which is a sentiment I can appreciate but he's mostly doing it by causing chaos everywhere and fighting his old friends without any justified reason, he has gone completely mad and the reason why he became mad?

Because Oliver Queen insulted him.

This so blatantly dumb that I honestly can't believe that a person with his full mental abilities thought it was a good motivation for someone to go completely insane.

You thought that was the worst part? Think again.

Helena is now so desperate to get the old Earth 2 back that she's ready to join Jimmy in his quest to destroy the planet where they currently live while Kara is telling her that she should just "let the past go" which is immensily hilarious considering that in World's Finest (a quite bland series mind you) it was the other way around with Helena trying to get used to the new world and Kara desperately trying to get back to their home.

Oh and there's also that lovely detail about Helena being so selfish that she's willing to fight her old friends and putting innocent lives in peril for completely petty and crazy reasons.

There are other bad things going on like Rex Tyler being so weak of personality that now he's willing to follow Jimmy just because he promised him things and he can't even invent his own Miraclo formula like in the past. Good God.

Good things? Well, Alisson Borges' artwork is solid enough but I'm missing Jorge Jimenez and I'm glad we're keeping him.

I would say that Wilson is trying to leave the title doing the biggest damage possible to the characters in petty revenge but considering that his whole incompetence with characterization is well-known, I think this is yet another case of his terrible writing.
