Some thoughts about Superman #7

What are Lex Luthor's true intentions?

Superman has always shown Metropolis that they all can become better people and this belief might have finally reach Lex but things are not going to be easy once of the greatest villains in the universe returns.

Here we have an oversized chapter because this is technically issue 850 of the Superman book and Joshua Williamson does know how to use the extra pages.

The story continues with several key moments progressing which will be even further developed in the future. An interesting theme that Williamson is playing with is how Superman has motivated a lot of the people in his city to be the best version of themselves and surprisingly enough, that might actually positively affected Lex, I don't know how this portrayal will evolve in upcoming issues but so far, Lex might be sincere for once in his life. This is also reflected in many other members of the cast, especially Perry White who has a surprising new role in Metropolis that also connects to the plot of Lex's enemies coming back for him.

There are also particular plot-points that seem a bit like fanfiction because they involve the return of Lex's family which never played a relevant part of the series (nor we didn't even know they existed) but I'm going to give Williamson the benefit of the doubt here because of this might be interesting. The return of someone like Brainiac is appropriate since he has always represented a believable threat. Finally, this wouldn't be a Williamson story if he didn't reference many continuity moments including the Rebirth scenes when Lex tried to become the city's Superman.

Gleb Melnikov, Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund and Edwin Galmon handle the art and they all do a solid job during their respective sections giving the read a very "classic" feel.

Solid read, can't wait for the next one.
