Some thoughts about The New Champion of Shazam #2

Can Mary return to her old life?

Mary's time in college has been interrupted because of the sudden disappearance of her foster parents and she will have to face that on her own without the help of her siblings now.

I wasn't fond of the first chapter so I wasn't expecting much from this one and I don't know if it was because of that but I thought this was a considerable improvement over the first issue.

Josie Campbell opens the new installment with the investigation about what happened to Mary's parents which was the right decision since it allows for the plot to move much faster than last time. This also leads to Mary meetings her siblings once again and, credit where credit is due, the fact that Mary got the powers for herself out of nowhere is actually brought and develop, creating a more tense relationship with the rest of the family, is actually a nice direction for such an abrupt change. My only complaint here is not even Campbell's fault but is because Freddy is suddenly alive and well, like nothing happened, I guess everyone at DC realized that Tim Sheridan did a godawful job with the "death" of Freddy and wanted to fix that immediately but still, I wish there would have been a more natural progression from that (Like that Freddy was still recovering in the hospital or something).

The rest of the issue also improves because it shows the more classic side of Mary being the most caring person in the family (None of that "I like to hit fast" nonsense trait from the previous issue) and there's a much clearer hint about what they're doing with the antagonists. However, I have to say that the writing still feels overwritten with dialogue and narration boxes saying more than they should.

Doc Shaner is still gorgeous with beautiful and expressive characters and a storytelling that follows the script as perfectly as possible.

Decent read, let's see where things go next.
