And once again, I'm here to give you some recommendations this time focusing on the different runs:
- Mike Baron's run (The Flash Vol. 2, issues 1 - 14): Starting with issue 1 of The Flash Vol. 2, is not one of the best periods from that book but is necessary to understand how great Wally West would become in the following works.
- William Messner-Loebs' run (The Flash Vol. 2, issues 15 - 61): Probably one of the most underrated works on the character and definitely one of the best. To this date, Messner-Loebs is the one who did the best character work for Wally West and created a wonderful and multidimensional supporting cast. You need to check thsi out.
- Mark Waid's run (The Flash Vol. 2, issues 62 -162 aside from Morrison/Millar's short run and a few other stories): I don't think that this is as good as some people proclaim, mostly because it negated some aspects of Wally's life like his friends, had some mediocre stories and turned Barry Allen into a bland guy. Nonetheless, is still pretty influential due to the creation of the Speed Force which would become one of the most important aspects from the mythos.
- Geoff Johns' run (The Flash Vol. 2, issues 164 - 225): Probably the best era from this volume, Johns made Wally's universe bigger than ever and developed The Rogues into the memorable villains they are now. You really need to read this.
- Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato's run (The Flash New 52, issues 1 - 25): Is a bit rough at the beginning but is an enjoyable read that becomes much better towards the end and made Barry a much more likable character.
How much of the Waid material have you actually read?
ResponderBorrarAll of it. My favorite parts were The Return of Barry Allen, Terminal Velocity, Dead Heat amd Race Against Time but there were some really lackluster one-and-done or two-part stories.
BorrarPlus, by the time when Chain Lightning and Cobalt Blue arrived I knew it was time for Waid to go.
