Some thoughts about Stargirl: The Lost Children #5

What does Hourman want?

Stargirl is trying to make all the forgotten sidekicks work together to escape the island but there's a much bigger threat than the person that captured them.

Getting close to the conclusion and while this issue is mostly a set-up for that, it still offers good moments.

Geoff Johns offers a new installment in which he explores more of the relationships between the cast. New sidekicks keep being introduced and while it might seem a bit chaotic at first, it also allows for a few fun scenes like how we're presented to a frikking Blue Beetle sidekick of all things (Probably Dan Garrett's specifically), not to mention the return of fan-favorites like Secret. There are also a few segments of what seems to be forced conflict between the cast but that fortunately doesn't last long and creates a solid character development for many of them.

Unfortunately, the plot itself doesn't progress much. We're given hints about what's happening in this island but is pretty clear that Johns is preparing all of the anwers for the final issue and thankfully the build-up to that seems interesting enough.

Todd Nauck returns to art duties and his work is still perfect for this thanks to the energetic artstyle and clear expressions.

Good read, hope the ending delivers.
