The event that is about to make the universe tremble has just started.
The New Gods haven't made their presence clear for a while but now they have decided to take matters at hand and begin imposing their control over existence. Their first course of action is to get the power of the different Lantern Corps which could be a great advantage against the war that is about to come.
I have been waiting for this event for a while. I personally have been enjoying Robert Venditti's run on Green Lantern a lot and this crossover was obviously the biggest in terms of scale and importance. Is it good?
I would say that is a pretty solid beginning already.
Robert Venditti accompanied by Van Jensen, Justin Jordan, Charles Soule and Cullen Bunn are creating a story where they portray the New Gods with the kind of respect and relevance they deserve by presenting them as a powerful and believable threat.
The worldbuilding for their race is quite nice. Their history is automatically explored from the early pages which help to explore the different characters and personalities that exist among them, this is a quite decent introduction for anyone who doesn't know about these beings overall.
The Lantern Corps are obviously included here and the danger they face is understandable. Some of them will have to deal with the loss of their rings which is something that represent an interesting twist for their story.
The artwork is provided by Ethan Van Sciver, Pete Woods, Martin Coccolo, Chris Chross and Goran Sudzuka and it looks really gorgeous in general. All the pencillers manage to keep a consistent style over the course of the chapter.
Definitely a worthy opening for this story. Now onto Green Lantern.
