Some thoughts about Lazarus Planet: Omega #1

How can the devils be defeated?

Damian has been witness of the awakening of different super powered beings recently but they will need their own team of superheroes to put an end to the culprits.

... Good GOD, this last month has been excruciating and it was all because of this lame excuse of an event.

I don't know who had the brilliant idea to make this crossover all-around the recently introduced villain Nezha who was all-right in the few stories where he appeared but he wasn't interesting nor important enough to dedicate a full ongoing story that took a goddamn month and was basically just a way to introduce new Metahumans who I'm sure will be just as memorable as the ones that were created during Bloodlines in the 90s or in Dark Matter just a few years ago.

Because yes, all the tie-ins didn't contribute to the main "plot" at all and that's the reason why I didn't even bother talking about them but to be honest I'm glad they didn't even bother with making them part of the story because of how forgettable it was. We all complained about Dark Crisis but at least that got good character moments here and there and eventually delivered a rather appropriate conclusion. Here we have just a poorly-paced action sequence with barely any interesting character development, facing dull antagonists and concluding in a rather abrup way that is yet another tease for things to come that are not even that intriguing.

Who had the bright idea to make such an useless event? Especially by someone like Mark Waid who doesn't have a good track record concerning crossovers? I could told you that it was a worthless decision (In fact, I'm pretty sure I did months ago).

But I can't completely blame Waid for how lackluster this is, this mostly on DC who lately doesn't seem to have a good handle on what makes event stories interesting and just want to copy Marvel's style of creating a trailer for their new status quo.

Ricardo Federici and Mike Perkins handle the art and is fine with strong details that emphasize the supernatural angle but there isn't anything compelling to draw here.

Gene Luen Yang returns to the second feature exploring the past between Nezha and King Fire Bull including the time they faced Darkseid and it actually helps to make them more compelling but again, the fact that this is included just after the goddamn main story ended makes you realize how badly this was handled. Billy Tan's pencils deliver a lot of detail and energy.

Overall, another waste of time, someone needs to tell DC how to make good crossovers again.
