Some thoughts about Batman Eternal #1

A brand new era for Batman starts here.

Liutenant Jason Bard has just arrived to Gotham City by recommendation of Comissioner Gordon. However, it could be one of the worst times to visit the city since Professor Pyg's new gang is currently threatening the people and their children. Jim Gordon might be one who loses the most from this situation though.

The first issue of the new weekly series based on one of the most popular DC characters, the company has been teasing this title as one of their biggest projects yet for a while so does it live to the hype?

I think so far it does. Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV are in charge of the story and script while Ray Fawkes, John Layman and Tim Seeley are credited as consulting writers. However, the overall writing is pretty good and it seems to follow Snyder's vision pretty nicely.

The story starts promising enough with a glance into an apocaliptic future that teases the end of Gotham City and Batman and quickly it changes the setting to present time to reintroduce a classic Batman character like Jason Bard in the New 52 to serve as one of the protagonists.

The following scenes focusing on Batman and Gordon chasing Professor Pyg and his gang and this is the part where we see how Gordon's story will develope over the course of this series and the reasons why he's under charges. I'm not going to spoil what he does in this issue but it's clear that they're setting this as a mystery.

Jason Fabok is in charge of art duties in this issue and his work is simply fantastic. His style is pretty cinematic and epic in scope that complements perfectly the script that these authors are creating, the refinement he brings into his artwork is admirable.

This is a pretty interesting premise that so far seems to be leaving to its potential.
