The power of Shazam is out of control.
The Gods that have granted abilities to Billy are now looking for him. Meanwhile, Billy is trying to regain his work as a hero that will lead him to a much bigger threat.
I feel this series has been delayed too much and while decent, this issue doesn't make the wait worth it.
Mark Waid offers a new installment where he gives us a bigger insight about what's happening to the world of magic. Using the deities behind the power of Shazam is actually a pretty interesting idea (something I believe hasn't been implemented since Judd Winick's Trials of Shazam) even though they're turned into antagonists and the conflict that Billy faces because of the loss of the Captain is also compelling enough (despite that him being weak physically clashes with what Geoff Johns did with him early on). Not to mention that the sense of classic comic fun is still present in the form of space dinosaurs and talking gorillas which is always appreciated.
That being said, the pacing of the book can be kinda erratic due that we jump constantly from segment to segment without proper transitions. Plus, it feels like we're going through different kind of stories before actually finishing the main arc we're dealing with. The flow of the read is just jarring.
Dan Mora remains in art duties and his work is still pretty great thanks to his beautiful artstyle and precise storytelling.
Not bad but it could have been better, hope the next one fixes this.
