Some thoughts about Superman/Wonder Woman Annual #2

Whatever happened to the Power Couple?

Something occurred to the relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman and none of them knows exactly what it is but it seems like it could mean the end.

You know what's the problem with these Annuals? That they're mostly connected to crossovers. The first one was related to Doomed I believe and this one is related to Truth.

To be fair though, this is just barely connected to that event although it heavily relies in it by showcasing the change of status quo and is handled by three different writers in fact.

Peter Tomasi is in charge of the first section focusing on the past when their relationship just began and is actually a pretty solid story since Tomasi creates quite accurate characterization for both of them while showing a believable dynamic as well as delivering a nice contrast between them and Arthur and Mera. This is the point where you can have faith in their future. Marco Santucci handles the artwork and is pretty competent with expressive characters and clear enough storytelling.

The second segment is handled by K. Perkins who starts showcasing some of their problems like how their different lives get between them. Is an overall average story that doesn't really works as well as it could, it also introduced a new member of Wonder Woman's pantheon of Gods but is not particularly interesting either. Ken Lashley is in charge of the art and is okay, the characters are decent enough and the action is nicely depicted.

The final part is written by Sholly Fisch and is focused on the current events where Clark has lost his powers and I would say that is a quite compelling tale due that it kinda reverses the usual belief that fans have about their relationship, about how Superman is the one who does all the work while Wonder Woman is in the sidelines, and does a good job with it. Matthew Clark is in charge of art duties and is definitely the best looking work here with beautiful characters and pretty good storytelling.

Overall, I would say I liked Fisch's story the best followed by Tomasi's and Perkins in that order. Is not really an impressive Annual though, I don't think the future is bright for the pairing.
