Some thoughts about Justice League #28

Whatever happened to the Metal Men?

Will Magnus is a misanthropic but undoubtly brilliant young man who was hired to create the best Artificial Intelligence in the world. Unfortunately the project went wrong, not because the Metal Men were defective or anything but because they were simply too good.

Ladies and gentleman, this is one of the prime examples of why this series rocks and is still the best thing that came out of Forever Evil, including the miniseries itself.

Geoff Johns continues his worldbuilding in the DCU by focusing on lesser known characters like the Metal Men and giving them enough personality and potential to actually support their existence in this universe and even managing to make me want an ongoing featuring these characters.

The story itself is mostly a flashback but a pretty good one where we're presented to the new personalities of the cast. Gold is egocentric, Tin is shy and even his sttutering is actually explained, Lead is a slow in every sense, Mercury is rebellious, Iron is an alpha robot and Platinum continues to be in love with the doctor. The last aspect is not something that I actually adore but it's tradition I guess.

My only complaint here is that I wish that Johns would have used Copper too, one of the last additions to the Metal Men on their previous incarnation, to make the cast even more diverse but it still works.

Ivan Reis handles the art layouts while Joe Prado and Scott Hanna are in charge of finishing it, the final work still looks pretty good and the designs for the characters that were introduced here is simply fantastic.

Excellent issue, the best I have read this week.
